The
oldest type of
rechargeable battery is
the Sealed Lead Acid Battery,
which is able to
supply high surge currents
and remains the most popular
of batteries. Due to
their robust nature and
tolerance to abuse, the 12v
SLA (sealed) battery is
available at a relatively
low cost and can be obtained
here, from any one of
the catalogued
manufacturers on this page.
Characteristically, the 12
volt sealed battery is big and
heavy and has a
much shorter cycle life,
but retains its popularity,
nonetheless. They can
take 5 times as long to
recharge as it does to
discharge, and consequently
can stay at peak voltage
for a long periods of time.
The 12v SLA (sealed)
battery should always be
stored in a charged state. It
should be remembered that
batteries are used to store
energy, as a fuel tank
stores fuel; they don't
produce energy – so they need
your proper care and
attention. |
